Cupertino, California – Apple today first iOS 14, introduces the biggest ever update to the home screen page with beautifully redesigned widgets and app library, a new way to take advantage of the App Store with app clips, robust message updates, and more.
The new widgets present timely information at a glance and can be pinned to different sizes on each page of the home screen. The home screen page can display custom widgets for work, travel, sports, entertainment and other areas of interest. At the bottom of the home page is the app library, a new space that automatically organizes all user apps into a simple, easy-to-navigate view and intelligently displays which apps can help right now. Users can choose how many pages from the home screen pages will be easily displayed and hide pages for quick access to the app library.

FaceTime login and phone calls and Siri interactions require a new, fully compact design that allows users to stay in the context of what they are doing. With Picture-in-Picture support, iPhone users can now watch videos or make FaceTime calls while using other apps.

New ways to find and use apps with app clips
An app clip is a small part of the app experience designed to be discovered when needed. Application clips are associated with a particular product or business, and are loaded in seconds to complete a specific task, such as renting a scooter, buying a coffee, or loading a parking meter. They can be easily found and accessed by scanning Apple's new app-designed code clip, 1 or via NFC tags and QR codes, or shared in messages or from Safari, all with the app's expected security and privacy.

Strong updates for message conversations
Messaging is a hub for communicating with friends and family, and now it's easier to stay connected and access important messages quickly. Users can embed conversations at the top of their message list, easily follow live group threads through online replies and mentions, and further customize the conversation by assigning group photos using images or EMOJI. Memoji's new options in the message are even more inclusive and diverse with additional hairstyles, hats, face coverings and more.

A greener way to explore and new guides on the map
Maps makes it easier than ever to navigate and explore with the direction of new cycling routes, electric vehicles and selected guides. Cycling directions Take into account the elevation, the busy road and if there are stairs along the route. Electric vehicle routing adds load stops along planned routes based on the current cost of the vehicle and the type of charger. 2 guides provide a list of interesting places to visit in the city, created by a selection of trusted resources. Guides are a great way to find hot new restaurants, discover popular attractions and explore new recommendations from respected brands, including AllTrails, Community, The Infatuation, Time Out Group, and The Washington Post, among others.

Additional features of iOS 14

Translate is designed to be the best and easiest application to translate conversations, offering fast and natural translations of voice and text between 11 different languages. 4 modes on the device allow users to experience the offline app feature for voice and personal text translation.

Siri expands your knowledge, helps you find answers from all over the Internet, and now you can send audio messages. Keyboard dictation runs on your device when dictating messages, notes, emails, and more. 5

Home App facilitates intelligent home control with new automation tips and expanded control in the control center for quick access to accessories and scenes. Adaptive lighting for HomeKit-compatible lights automatically adjusts color temperatures throughout the day, and with facial recognition on the device, a compatible video doorbell, and camera can identify friends and family. 6 Home and HomeKit apps are designed to be private and secure, so all information about home accessory users is end-to-end encrypted.

AirPods have the ability to seamlessly switch between Apple devices and automatic device redirections. 7 spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings the theater experience to your AirPods Pro. By applying a directional audio filter and subtly adjusting the frequencies each ear receives, the sound can be placed virtually anywhere in a space to provide a deep listening experience.

Digital car crashes offer users a safe way to use their iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock and start their cars. Digital car crashes can be easily shared via messaging, or turned off via iCloud if your device is lost, and is available starting this year via NFC. 8 Apple also launched the next generation of digital car keys based on Ultra Wideband technology for space knowledge delivered via the U1 chip, which will allow users to unlock future car models without removing their Iphones from their pockets or bags, and will be available next year.

Find me will add support for finding third-party products and accessories with the new search accessory network program. This will allow customers to use the Find Me app to find other important items in their life in addition to their Apple devices. Accessibility features include headphone adaptation, which amplifies soft sounds and Tunes audio to help make music, movies, phone calls, and podcasts sound clearer and clearer, as well as signal language detection in the FaceTime group, making the person more prominent in video calls. 12 VoiceOver, an industry-leading screen reader for the blind community, now automatically recognizes what's displayed visually on the screen, so more people can access more apps and web experiences.

Availability
IOS 14 Developer Preview is available to Apple Developer Program members developer.apple.com starting today, and a public beta will be available to iOS users next month on beta.apple.com. New software features will be available this fall as a free software update for iPhone 6s and later.
